This Could Be The Best Christmas Ever!!! by Marc Axelrod

Luke 2:10-2:11

How many people like getting Christmas presents? You might open a present and say “Oh, wow! A brand new XBOX 360! It comes with two video games! This is an awesome Christmas present. It’s just what I wanted!”

Or you might open your present and say, “I just got a brand new Samsung cellphone! You can send text messages. It takes pictures! You can play videos on it. You can even make phone calls with it! This is a great Christmas present! It’s just what I wanted!”

Or you might go outside and say, “Oh, yeah! A brand new 4th generation iPod touch! It has cameras, and it comes with an iTunes gift card!! It’s just what I wanted!”

Getting Christmas presents is cool! But tonight, the youth group talked about the best Christmas present ever! The message that Jesus Christ is born!
Number one: It’s a PERSONAL message. Luke 2:10 says “I bring YOU good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Normally, it was the Roman Empire that announced good news. They would say things like “Good news! The emperor’s wife just had a baby! Good news! The emperor’s chariot is going to be riding through YOUR town!" And most people would say "Big deal! What does that have to do with me?"

But in Luke, the angel says "I have good news for YOU! This news is going make your life better! This news is going to make you see how much God loves you! This news is about Jesus coming down to earth and dying on the cross to pay the penalty for YOUR sins! The Christmas message is a personal message.

The second thing I want you to see is that the Christmas message is a positive message. The angel says "I bring you GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY!" Jesus coming into our lives is something we should celebrate!

Hopefully, the Packers are going to beat the New York Giants on Sunday. And if they do, some of you are going to jump off the couch and shout “YES! OUR PLAYOFFS HOPES ARE ALIVE AND WELL!”

I’m totally in agreement with celebrating great moments in sports. But we need to celebrate the birth of Jesus even more! We need to say “Father, thank you for giving us the best gift ever! The best FRIEND ever! The best Master ever! Thank you for Jesus!”

We’ve seen that the Christmas message is personal and positive. The third thing I want you to see is that the Christmas message is universal. Luke 2:10 says “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for ALL the people!”

You say “Pastor Marc, I don’t deserve to have Jesus in my life. I drink. I swear. I go to bad websites. I say horrible things to my parents. I’ll never be good enough for God.”

All that might be true. But the Bible says “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for ALL the people! Even people who make mistakes! No matter how many sins you have in your history, the blood of Jesus Christ can make it all ANCIENT history! His blood washes away the mistakes of the past forever.

And if you accept the risen Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you will be forgiven by God and you will live happily ever after. Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The wonder of Christmas is that the God who dwelled among now wants to live inside us! This is no fairy tale. This is the honest to God truth. How many of you are ready to make this the best Christmas ever? How many of you want Jesus to love you and guide you and protect you from now on, every day? Then put your hands in the air. Repeat “Lord Jesus, I receive you into my life. Cleanse me from my sins. Help me to be the best I can be for You. Amen.” You’ve been a wonderful audience! Let’s give Jesus a big round of applause!”
